Description

The HVITTRÄSK sauna textile collection was made in co-operation with the National Museum of Finland. The collection is designed by Reeta Ek, who won The Young Designer of the Year award in 2017, awarded through the Design Forum Finland. In the RUUSU x HVITTRÄSK sauna collection, the national romanticism and the roses found throughout the interior details and the gardens in the Hvitträsk studio home inspired Reeta. The collection combines traditional patterns and rhythms with relaxed ink painted strokes that flow beautifully upon the woven surface.

Linen is natural material that feels nice against the skin. Linen is very absorbent and fast drying. This is why it is an excellent material for towels. RUUSU X HVITTRÄSK hand towel is also suitable as a tea towel.

Meet the designer

REETA EK

Reeta Ek is a freelance designer from Helsinki and a MA graduate from Textile Art and Design department in the Aalto University on Arts, Design and Architecture. She has also studied Fine Arts, and already in her paintings she became interested in repeats, patterns and building a surface. She sketches by hand; plenty of drawings inspired by the subconscious – surfaces, rhythms, lines.

Lapuan Kankurit got acquainted with Reeta through Aalto University's Pattern Lab project in 2012, when Reeta's first patterns entered our collection. Since then, the cooperation has continued for more than 10 years.

Sustainable production

Developing the best textiles in the world is our passion. The world is changing, and Lapuan Kankurit has the courage to develop entirely new products and invest in our own production.

Our top designs are woven in Lapua, in the middle of the Ostrobothnian fields. Our own mill, the young, open-minded professionals, and the experienced older craftsmen who work there allow us to make our products a little better every day.

We use only natural raw materials. We know where our materials come from, and we also know all the working stages from thread to finished product. This produces a result we can be proud of.

Linen

Linen is one of our favourite materials. It is ecological, comfortable on the skin and easy to use. Linen absorbs moisture effectively and the textiles also dry fast!

The Masters of Linen flax we use, is grown by rainwater in France, Netherlands and Belgium, requiring no irrigation or much fertilizing.
