Meet the designer: Akira Minagawa
Akira Minagawa is a famous Japanese textile designer and illustrator, best known as the founder of the minä perhonen design company. In addition to his own brand, Minagawa has now also designed textiles for Lapuan Kankurit, among others.
Akira’s style is often described with words such as romantic, naive and imaginative. Akira himself doesn’t submit to a particular style – to him, everything starts with his own memories, which he wishes to bring to life.
“I am bringing the fantasies in my mind out of my hands and into the real world.”

Wool is a true natural material, one of its best qualities being heat insulation.
We have made massive investments to be able to make products from local Finnish wool, as well. If we didn’t have wool naturally, we’d have to invent it– its properties are that superior. Wool keeps you warm in the winter cold and feels nice and cool in the summer heat. Authentic wool stays fluffy and does not get dusty, due to wool regulating humidity in such a way that inhibits the growth of dust mites.
As an antistatic material, wool does not attract dust or lint. It repels dirt and stays clean for a long time. Wool textiles do not require washing with water, a good airing out is often enough to refresh them. Although wool is very long-lasting, it is also 100 % biodegradable.
