Description

This lovely, soft and warm blanket was designed by Hanna Galtat. Hanna’s cooperation with Lapuan Kankurit began with the Aalto University’s PatternLab project. Designed during the project, the JUHANNUS blanket was inspired by the increasing and decreasing of the intensity of daylight before and after summer solstice. JUHANNUS-blanket contains local Finnsheep wool. This little blanket is a great gift for a child!

Traceable natural materials

100 % wool textile with the weft yarn of our own. The yarn is spun from the wool fibres of Finnsheep and Finnsheep crossbreeds, which we have obtained from the local farms in Finland, as well as from certified Wool Integrity NZ fibre. The warp yarn is made of certified South American wool fibre. All yarns are spun and dyed in the EU area and are mulesing-free wool. The natural-coloured yarns are made of brown, black and white sheep’s wool by melange. Nature is the most skilled dyer we know!

Preserving and developing the Finnish textile tradition has always been our passion, and we are particularly proud of this material.

Own transparent production

Preserving and developing Finnish textile tradition is important to us, which is why we started collecting local wool from Finnish sheep farms for industrial use. A key motivation for the project was that a large portion of the wool had previously gone to waste. We also rebuilt the production chain that had disappeared from Finland. Now we control the entire wool production process and engage in unique product development while passing on our expertise to future generations.

The product design, material purchases, loom programming and warping as well as the pre-work stages, weaving and fabric inspection are done in our own weaving mill in Lapua, Finland. If necessary, the sewing is done in our subsidiary’s own sewing department in Kaunas, Lithuania, or in our own sewing department in Lapua. The product wadding, drying and tuft finishing is done in our finishing plant in Lapua, Finland.

Care instructions

Only wash if textile is very dirty, otherwise take textile outdoors in fresh air for a while. Hand wash at max. 30°C or dry clean. If using powder detergent, dissolve it in plenty of water. Immerse the blanket in the water and wash immediately. Squeeze gently. Do not scrub, stretch or wring out. Rinse thoroughly and squeeze out most of the water. Press the blanket between towels until half-dry and leave it to dry in an airy space. Do not tumble dry. Iron with a damp cloth, max. 150°C.

Sustainable production

Developing the best textiles in the world is our passion. The world is changing, and Lapuan Kankurit has the courage to develop entirely new products and invest in our own production.

Our top designs are woven in Lapua, in the middle of the Ostrobothnian fields. Our own mill, the young, open-minded professionals, and the experienced older craftsmen who work there allow us to make our products a little better every day.

We use only natural raw materials. We know where our materials come from, and we also know all the working stages from thread to finished product. This produces a result we can be proud of.

Get to know material

Wool

Wool is a true natural material, one of its best qualities being heat insulation. Wool keeps you warm in the winter cold and feels nice and cool in the summer heat.

We have made massive investments to be able to make products from local Finnish wool, as well. Besides Finnish sheep wool, we also buy wool fibres and partly ready-made yarn from explicitly certified suppliers.
