Description

The TULPPAANI pattern was designed for Lapuan Kankurit by Helmi Liikanen in 2019. Helmi Liikanen is a Aalto University graduate, surface designer and a woven fabrics enthusiast. Helmi met Lapuan Kankurit on a study visit to the weaving mill – and an idea for a collaboration sparked. Many of the pieces that Helmi has designed for Lapuan Kankurit were created as part of her MA thesis. Often Helmi gets inspiration from the design process itself, as she plays with materials, colours and structures. Helmi believes in combining design knowledge and craftmanship for textiles with lasting beauty. Helmi’s TULPPAANI design is a part of her studies at Aalto University. TULPPAANI is a fun and more experimental combination of different weaves and warp densities. “TULPPAANI was born out of the joy of playing around with weaves and materials.”

Traceable natural materials

The weft yarn is European Masters of Linen–certified linen yarn, while the warp yarn is spun in the EU area from South American, fine-fibre and soft merino wool. The wool is mulesing-free and the yarns have been spun and dyed in the EU areas according to the REACH regulations, and they meet the requirements of the OEKO-TEX certificate.

The hot water bottle is made by the well-known German company Fashy GmbH from odourless, non-fading and recyclable thermoplastic. The hanging hook and stopper of the bottle are made of polypropylene. A hot water bottle can be sterilised by steaming. It complies with the British Standard BS1970:2012, is tested by TÜV Süd, is marked with the CE marking and falls under the Directive 93/42/ECC of 1993 on medical devices.

Own transparent production

The design of the bottle’s wool cover, material purchases, pre-work stages, weaving and fabric inspection as well as wadding and tuft finishing are done in our own weaving and finishing mills in Lapua, Finland. The sewing is done in our subsidiary’s own sewing department in Kaunas, Lithuania, or in our own sewing department in Lapua, Finland.

The hot water bottle inside is made in Germany by Fashy GmbH, which is the world’s leading manufacturer of high-quality hot water bottles.

Care instructions

Sustainable production

Developing the best textiles in the world is our passion. The world is changing, and Lapuan Kankurit has the courage to develop entirely new products and invest in our own production.

Our top designs are woven in Lapua, in the middle of the Ostrobothnian fields. Our own mill, the young, open-minded professionals, and the experienced older craftsmen who work there allow us to make our products a little better every day.

We use only natural raw materials. We know where our materials come from, and we also know all the working stages from thread to finished product. This produces a result we can be proud of.

Wool

Wool is a true natural material, one of its best qualities being heat insulation. Wool keeps you warm in the winter cold and feels nice and cool in the summer heat.

We have made massive investments to be able to make products from local Finnish wool, as well. Besides Finnish sheep wool, we also buy wool fibres and partly ready-made yarn from explicitly certified suppliers.
