Bio-Organic Cotton
Bio-organic cotton is a breathable and soft natural fibre, making it an exceptional partner for linen fibre.
ENVIRONMENT
Cotton is a natural fibre that consists almost entirely of cellulose. We mainly use bio-organic cotton that is certified and meets the OEKO-TEX ® STANDARD 100, which is mainly spun in Europe. The certificate can be granted for organically produced cotton. The OEKO-TEX label for yarns means that the products do not contain chemicals and dyes that are harmful to health.
Bio-organic cotton is cultivated in a controlled manner, so the entire textile chain from cultivation to sale is transparent. The IMO certificate guarantees a responsible production chain. We dye all of our cotton yarns in Europe, with a significant part being dyed in Lappajärvi, Finland, near our own weaving mill. It is our responsibility to operate transparently and set an example for responsible textile manufacturing.
Our goal is to switch completely to certified bio-organic cotton by 2025. At the same time, we have reduced the use of cotton altogether, replacing it with Tencel, which has less impact on the environment, because cotton production requires a lot of water and land.
QUALITIES
Cotton feels pleasant on the skin, as the fibre is flexible, soft, breathable and light. Cotton fibre is strong, and its strength increases by up to 10–20 % when wet. It also absorbs moisture well, making it a popular towel material. Cotton is easy to wash.
