Description

The CORONA blanket was designed by Marja Rautiainen, one of Lapuan Kankurit’ long-standing designers. Marja’s work reflects her strong professional expertise and deep respect for Finnish textile traditions. The collaboration between Lapuan Kankurit and Marja began through the LOUHI project in 2000, when she was studying at TAIK (now Aalto University).

The beloved CORONA blanket designed by Marja won the prestigious Muoto Award in 2015.

The blanket is made of 100% wool. This luxurious piece is treated during production to achieve exceptional softness, making it comfortable even against bare skin. The shawl is wonderfully lightweight and beautifully draping, while still offering the genuine warmth of wool.

Traceable natural materials

The weft and warp yarn are spun in the EU area from certified, responsible South American, fine-fibre and soft wool fibre. The wool is mulesing-free: we only work with responsible and certified spinning mills which adhere to our code of conduct. The yarns have been dyed according to the REACH regulations, and they meet the requirements of the OEKO-TEX certificate.

Own transparent production

Our own production in Lapua, Finland, enables us to combine the best materials. We want to be responsible for the production of our products ourselves, starting from the yarn all the way to the finished product. This is why the most significant part of the production is done in our own weaving mill in Lapua, Finland.

The product design, material purchases, loom programming and warping as well as the pre-work stages, weaving and fabric inspection are done in our own weaving mill in Lapua, Finland. If necessary, the sewing is done in our subsidiary’s own sewing department in Kaunas, Lithuania, or in our own sewing department in Lapua. The product finishing is done in our finishing plant in Lapua, Finland.

Care instructions

Only wash if textile is very dirty, otherwise take textile outdoors in fresh air for a while. Hand wash at max. 30°C or dry clean. If using powder detergent, dissolve it in plenty of water. Immerse the blanket in the water and wash immediately. Squeeze gently. Do not scrub, stretch or wring out. Rinse thoroughly and squeeze out most of the water. Press the blanket between towels until half-dry and leave it to dry in an airy space. Do not tumble dry. Iron with a damp cloth, max. 150°C.

Meet the designer

Marja Rautiainen

Educated at the University for Industrial Arts, Marja Rautiainen is one of the secrets to success at Lapuan Kankurit. Marja's work reflects her strong professional skills and her passion for Finnish textile traditions. Collaboration between Lapuan kankurit and Marja Rautiainen started during the LOUHI-project already 2000, when she was still studing at TAIK, nowadays Aalto University.

Marja's CORONA blanket won the MUOTO 2015 award for Finnish design.

Sustainable production


Developing the best textiles in the world is our passion. The world is changing, and Lapuan Kankurit has the courage to develop entirely new products and invest in our own production.


Our top designs are woven in Lapua, in the middle of the Ostrobothnian fields. Our own mill, the young, open-minded professionals, and the experienced older craftsmen who work there allow us to make our products a little better every day.

We use only natural raw materials. We know where our materials come from, and we also know all the working stages from thread to finished product. This produces a result we can be proud of.

Get to know material

Wool

Wool is a true natural material, one of its best qualities being heat insulation. Wool keeps you warm in the winter cold and feels nice and cool in the summer heat.

We have made massive investments to be able to make products from local Finnish wool, as well. Besides Finnish sheep wool, we also buy wool fibres and partly ready-made yarn from explicitly certified suppliers.
