Description
With the AIKA blanket, we wanted to create something timeless for you, a blanket that reflects both the quiet beauty of nature and the enduring quality of traditional craftsmanship.
AIKA is not only wonderfully lightweight, but also delightfully warm in a way that only genuine wool can be. What makes it even more special is the Finnsheep’s wool, sourced exclusively from carefully certified suppliers committed to ensuring the wellbeing of their sheep.
A lovely detail of the AIKA blanket is its delicate white stripes. The soft, naturally toned blanket makes a wonderful gift idea that fits perfectly in any home!
The fringed AIKA blanket is 100% wool and contains Finnsheep wool! We collect the Finnsheep wool used in the product ourselves from nearby farms within a radius of approximately 400 km from Lapua. Once the wool is gathered from local farms, it is sorted by colour into white, black, and natural brown. After washing, it moves to the spinning mill, where we carefully apply specially developed colour blends, combining these undyed shades. This process allows us to create stunning, natural tones of grey, beige, and brown, giving the AIKA blanket its unique character.
Finnsheep wool is not only versatile but also one of the softest wool varieties in the Nordic region. Products containing local Finnsheep wool are an ethical choice like no other: by choosing them, you support Finnish production, traditional craftsmanship, and nature itself.
Traceable natural materials
100 % wool textile with the weft yarn of our own. The yarn is spun from the wool fibres of Finnsheep and Finnsheep crossbreeds, which we have obtained from the local farms in Finland, as well as from certified Wool Integrity NZ fibre. The warp yarn is spun in the EU area from certified, responsible South American, fine-fibre and soft wool fibre. All yarns are spun and dyed in the EU area and are mulesing-free wool. The natural-coloured yarns are made of brown, black and white sheep’s wool by melange. Nature is the most skilled dyer we know!
Own transparent production
Preserving and developing Finnish textile tradition is important to us, which is why we started collecting local wool from Finnish sheep farms for industrial use. A key motivation for the project was that a large portion of the wool had previously gone to waste. We also rebuilt the production chain that had disappeared from Finland. Now we control the entire wool production process and engage in unique product development while passing on our expertise to future generations.
The product design, material purchases, loom programming and warping as well as the pre-work stages, weaving, fringing and fabric inspection are done in our own weaving mill in Lapua, Finland. If necessary, the sewing is done in our subsidiary’s own sewing department in Kaunas, Lithuania, or in our own sewing department in Lapua. Finishing – including washing, milling, drying and raising – is done in our finishing plant in Lapua, Finland.
