Description

The VIILU sauna textile collection, designed by Marja Rautiainen, has become a modern classic. Marja created the pattern in 2011, and her work reflects both exceptional craftsmanship and a deep respect for Finnish textile heritage. The wood-grain inspired VIILU pattern beautifully captures the natural texture of wood, further enhanced by the dynamic depth of Jacquard weaving.

We weave our sauna textiles in our own weaving mill in Lapua, Finland, using fully traceable raw materials: European long-staple linen and bio-organic cotton. Our unique finishing facility, located next to the workshop in Lapua, allows us to give these textiles a high-quality finish. This means that, with proper care, the textile will retain its shape in home washing and maintain its form wash after wash.

Please note that our sauna pillows can be also used as a travel pillow. It’s also the perfect companion to take along  to a yoga studio or for a day at the beach.

Traceable natural materials

The warp yarn of our textile is certified 100 % organic cotton. The weft yarn is Masters of Linen–certified 100 % linen. The long staple linen we use is grown with rainwater in Central Europe, and is entirely traceable. The yarns have been spun and dyed in the EU area according to the REACH regulations. The filling is SL-1-graded fireproof polyester. SL references the Finnish flammability grading, with SL-1 being the most fireproof.

WE ADVISE CAUTION: Keep the pillow a safe distance away from the hot sauna stove. Do not fall asleep in the sauna. Remember to remove all textiles from the sauna after use, and do not leave them in the sauna to dry.

Own transparent production

We want to be responsible for the production of our products ourselves, starting from the yarn all the way to the finished product. This is why the most significant part of the production is done in our own weaving mill in Lapua, Finland.

The product design, material purchases, loom programming and warping as well as the pre-work stages, weaving and fabric inspection are done in our own weaving mill in Lapua, Finland. The sewing is done in our subsidiary’s own sewing department in Kaunas, Lithuania, or in our own sewing department in Lapua. The stuffing and final sewing of the pillow are done in Jalasjärvi, Finland. The product finishing is done in our finishing plant in Lapua, Finland.

Sustainable production

Developing the best textiles in the world is our passion. The world is changing, and Lapuan Kankurit has the courage to develop entirely new products and invest in our own production.

Our top designs are woven in Lapua, in the middle of the Ostrobothnian fields. Our own mill, the young, open-minded professionals, and the experienced older craftsmen who work there allow us to make our products a little better every day.

We use only natural raw materials. We know where our materials come from, and we also know all the working stages from thread to finished product. This produces a result we can be proud of.
