Description
Our passion is to develop the world’s finest textiles. Our own weaving mill and its open-minded professionals make continuous, everyday product development possible. The LOUNAS placemats are a true showcase of the expertise of our in-house specialists.
The beautiful, multi-tonal colour of the LOUNAS placemat is created using mélange yarns. Mélange refers to the technique of combining two different coloured yarns, allowing a new shade to emerge before the viewer’s eyes. We twist this special two-toned weft yarn in our own weaving mill in Lapua.
100% washed linen is an excellent material for table textiles. It is beautiful, relaxed, and easy to care for. You can simply toss it into the washing machine whenever needed. Washed linen does not necessarily require ironing; small wrinkles are perfectly acceptable, even desirable.
Traceable natural materials
We have used Masters of Linen–certified 100 % linen yarn for both the warp and weft, spun from fully traceable long staple flax. We love flax as a material, for it is a durable, comfortable and environmentally friendly fibre.
Our flax grows with the power of rainwater in the temperate climate of central Europe, needing no irrigation. The yarns have been spun and dyed in the EU area according to the REACH regulations.
Did you know that linen is an ecological choice also because the dirt comes off it even when washed at 40 degrees Celsius?
Own transparent production
The most significant part of the production is done by the fourth generation of weavers in our own weaving mill in Lapua, Finland. We want to be responsible for the production of our products ourselves, starting from the yarn all the way to the finished product. The product design, material purchases, loom programming and warping as well as the pre-work stages, weaving and fabric inspection are done in our own weaving mill in Lapua, Finland. The sewing is done in our subsidiary’s own sewing department in Kaunas, Lithuania, or in our own sewing department in Lapua. The product finishing is done in our finishing plant in Lapua, Finland.
Thanks to owning our production, we are able to design our products and processes so that our ecological footprint stays as small as possible.
Care instructions
Wash linens at 60°C on a gentle cycle. Do not spin. Wash separately with plenty of water. 40°C is also an adequate wash temperature. Do not use softener and avoid bleach. Reshape and dry on a round beam or surface, not in a tumble dryer. Linen textiles will dry quickly, remember to iron when the fabric is still damp. The colour of natural linen becomes lighter with washing.
