Description
Maija Fagerlund found inspiration for the RAITTI pattern in the weave structures of traditional textiles, which she wanted to reinterpret in a modern fabric.
“Historical and traditional textiles inspire me, and I could spend endless hours studying the materials and structures of textile treasures found in museums and flea markets. RAITTI was born from the idea of creating an industrially producible version of a traditional weft-faced weave—the kind you see in Finnish raanu wall hangings and ripsi rugs.”
RAITTI cushion cover contains local Finnsheep wool!
Traceable natural materials
100 % wool textile with the weft yarn of our own. The yarn is spun from the wool fibres of Finnsheep and Finnsheep crossbreeds, which we have obtained from the local farms in Finland, as well as from certified Wool Integrity NZ fibre. The wool’s rich yellow colour comes from coffee – it is dyed with Paulig’s coffee production surplus in Lappajärvi, Finland. The warp yarn is spun in the EU area from certified, responsible South American, fine-fibre and soft wool fibre. The extra weft uses the same yarn as the warp. All yarns are spun in the EU area and are mulesing-free wool.
Own transparent production
Preserving and developing Finnish textile tradition is important to us, which is why we started collecting local wool from Finnish sheep farms for industrial use. A key motivation for the project was that a large portion of the wool had previously gone to waste. We also rebuilt the production chain that had disappeared from Finland. Now we control the entire wool production process and engage in unique product development while passing on our expertise to future generations.
The product design, material purchases, loom programming and warping as well as the pre-work stages, weaving and fabric inspection are done in our own weaving mill in Lapua, Finland. If necessary, the sewing is done in our subsidiary’s own sewing department in Kaunas, Lithuania, or in our own sewing department in Lapua. The product finishing is done in our finishing plant in Lapua.
