Description
Designer Heta Vajavaara first came up with the HAVAS blanket’s weave through her own personal weave structure library that she stocks with interesting weaves she discovers. “I was instantly drawn to the fun rhythm of the design, and how different colours would uplift and highlight certain aspects of it.”
Heta describes HAVAS as a design with a very traditional starting point, that is made interesting with the variations in the yarn colour and groupings.
This creates the repetitive, almost geometric rhythm in the pattern, the music to which the yarns dance throughout the blanket.
Traceable natural materials
100 % wool – and pleasant warmth. Both the weft and the warp yarn are made from the wool fibres of Finnsheep and Finnsheep crossbreeds, which we have obtained from the local farms in Finland, as well as from certified Wool Integrity NZ fibre. The wool’s rich yellow colour comes from coffee – it is dyed with Paulig’s coffee production surplus in Lappajärvi, Finland. All yarns are spun in the EU area and are mulesing-free wool.
Preserving and developing the Finnish textile tradition has always been our passion, and we are particularly proud of this material.
Own transparent production
Preserving and developing Finnish textile tradition is important to us, which is why we started collecting local wool from Finnish sheep farms for industrial use. A key motivation for the project was that a large portion of the wool had previously gone to waste. We also rebuilt the production chain that had disappeared from Finland. Now we control the entire wool production process and engage in unique product development while passing on our expertise to future generations.
The product design, material purchases, loom programming and warping as well as the pre-work stages, weaving and fabric inspection are done in our own weaving mill in Lapua, Finland. If necessary, the sewing is done in our subsidiary’s own sewing department in Kaunas, Lithuania, or in our own sewing department in Lapua. The product finishing is done in our finishing plant in Lapua, Finland.
