Description
The AURORA pattern draws its inspiration from the majestic and soft forms of the northern lights. The magical Aurora Borealis is an inseparable part of the landscape of Finland and the other Nordic countries, a world where earth and space intertwine.
“I wanted to express this imagery with a simple accumulation of lines. The overlapping drape-like expressions will give you a rich sense of three-dimensionality in the scenery of your daily life,” says designer Akira Minagawa.
Wonderfully soft 100% wool ensures that AURORA blankets are not only visually stunning, but also delightful to use. The AURORA blankets also include locally sourced Finnsheep’s wool.
The Finnsheep wool used in each blanket is collected by us from local farms within approximately 400 km of Lapua. We have invested over three million euros in a continuous finishing facility for wool textiles in Lapua, enabling us to bring back lost industrial expertise in wool processing to Finland. Today, our skilled weavers and finishers craft these beautiful wool textiles right in the heart of Ostrobothnia, Finland.
Finnsheep wool is not only versatile but also one of the softest wool varieties in the Nordic region. Products containing local Finnsheep wool are an ethical choice like no other: by choosing them, you support Finnish production, traditional craftsmanship, and nature itself.
This conveniently sized (100 x 150 cm) blanket is perfect for your lap, around your shoulders, and for travel.
Traceable natural materials
100 % wool textile with the weft yarn of our own. The yarn is spun from the wool fibres of Finnsheep and Finnsheep crossbreeds, which we have obtained from the local farms in Finland, as well as from certified Wool Integrity NZ fibre. The warp yarn is made of certified South American wool fibre. All yarns are spun and dyed in the EU area and are mulesing-free wool.
Preserving and developing the Finnish textile tradition has always been our passion, and we are particularly proud of this material.
Own transparent production
Preserving and developing Finnish textile tradition is important to us, which is why we started collecting local wool from Finnish sheep farms for industrial use. A key motivation for the project was that a large portion of the wool had previously gone to waste. We also rebuilt the production chain that had disappeared from Finland. Now we control the entire wool production process and engage in unique product development while passing on our expertise to future generations.
The product design, material purchases, loom programming and warping as well as the pre-work stages, weaving and fabric inspection are done in our own weaving mill in Lapua, Finland. If necessary, the sewing is done in our subsidiary’s own sewing department in Kaunas, Lithuania, or in our own sewing department in Lapua. Finishing – including washing, milling, drying and raising – is done in our finishing plant in Lapua, Finland.
