Description

Anu Leinonen has given washed linen an aesthetically relaxed and soft expression. Her distinctive style is based on clarity and natural materials. Timeless design and fresh colours have made the USVA (Finnish for “mist”) collection a classic.

We produced the first USVA bed linens for the KOTI Bed and Breakfast project, organized by the Finnish Institute in France in Paris in 2016. The beautiful bed linens received such a positive response that we decided to include them in our own collection as well.

USVA bed linens are made from fine 100% washed linen, an excellent material for home textiles. It is beautiful, relaxed, and easy to care for. You can safely machine wash it whenever needed. Linen feels warm in cool weather and cool in warm weather. Breathable linen textiles ensure a restful night’s sleep, even during the heat of summer.

The linen flat sheet also works well as a tablecloth or a curtain.

Traceable natural materials

We have used Masters of Linen–certified 100 % linen yarn for both the warp and weft, spun from fully traceable long staple flax. We love flax as a material, for it is a durable, comfortable and environmentally friendly fibre.

Our flax grows with the power of rainwater in the temperate climate of central Europe, needing no irrigation. The yarns have been spun and dyed in the EU area according to the REACH regulations.

Did you know that linen is an ecological choice also because the dirt comes off it even when washed at 40 degrees Celsius?

Own transparent production

The most significant part of the production is done by the fourth generation of weavers in our own weaving mill in Lapua, Finland. We want to be responsible for the production of our products ourselves, starting from the yarn all the way to the finished product.

The product design, material purchases, loom programming and warping as well as the pre-work stages, weaving and fabric inspection are done in our own weaving mill in Lapua, Finland. The sewing is done in our subsidiary’s own sewing department in Kaunas, Lithuania, or in our own sewing department in Lapua. The product finishing is done in our finishing plant in Lapua, Finland.

Thanks to owning our production, we are able to design our products and processes so that our ecological footprint stays as small as possible.

Care instructions

Wash separately at 60°C in plenty of water. 40°C is also an adequate wash temperature. We recommend a small amount of neutral washing powder. Avoid softener and bleach. Do not tumble dry. Reshape while damp. Normal spin cycle. Linen fibres may come off the product during the wash. Check the lint filter before and after washing. Iron the textil with linen settings. The colour of natural linen becomes lighter with washing.

Anu Leinonen

Meet the designer

Anu Leinonen

Anu Leinonen graduated from the Lahti Institute of design and then began a long career with Finnish clothing brands. She further honed her professional skills in Paris at the Centre de formation des Modélistes and designed collections for a French clothing company for ten years.

Upon returning to Finland, she started over 10 year long co-operation with Lapuan Kankurit. Her KASTE design was awarded by MUOTO 2012 award.

Sustainable production


Developing the best textiles in the world is our passion. The world is changing, and Lapuan Kankurit has the courage to develop entirely new products and invest in our own production.


Our top designs are woven in Lapua, in the middle of the Ostrobothnian fields. Our own mill, the young, open-minded professionals, and the experienced older craftsmen who work there allow us to make our products a little better every day.

We use only natural raw materials. We know where our materials come from, and we also know all the working stages from thread to finished product. This produces a result we can be proud of.

Get to know material

Linen

Linen is one of our favourite materials. It is ecological, comfortable on the skin and easy to use. Linen absorbs moisture effectively and the textiles also dry fast!

The Masters of Linen flax we use, is grown by rainwater in France, Netherlands and Belgium, requiring no irrigation or much fertilizing.
